It was a busy week for giving back at BCS! After the September 15 deadline, it was all hands on deck for two giving back projects. The first project was a water filter build with Wine to Water. We brought the filter kits with us to our firm outing at Paradise Acres so that every employee from all four office locations had the opportunity to participate in the fun project. BCS employees grabbed their bags of filter parts and an instruction sheet and got to work on assembling the filters. Building the filters was an easy, yet meaningful task that allowed us time to catch up with one another while we worked together on the build. At the end of the day we assembled 120 filters that will provide clean water to over 1,000 people for 10 years!
Wine to Water is a non-profit that started in Boone, North Carolina with the mission to support life and dignity for all through the power of clean water. Since Wine to Water began in 2007, they have supplied over 1 million people with clean water across 46 countries. Wine to Water Filter Builds give volunteers the opportunity to empower communities around the globe through the power of clean water.
The second giving back project of the week was a Saturday bed build with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Our group of volunteers rolled up their sleeves, put on their tool belts, and got to work sanding, sawing, and drilling. Together, the team of volunteers built 14 beds that will soon be delivered to local children who are currently sleeping on couches, blankets, and floors.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a wonderful organization that is providing children in our local area with beds to sleep in. Sometimes we take everyday things (like a warm, soft bed) for granted and we forget that not everyone has the same luxuries as we do. I truly believe that “it is better to give, than to receive” and I am grateful to be able to volunteer and give back to my community to help improve the lives of our children.

The Saturday Bed Build was wonderful. We sometimes assume our neighbor’s have what they need, like food in the fridge, running water, and that each child has a place to call their own.

This was my first time volunteering with SHP. As we worked together as a team building these beds, I learned more about the mission, “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town” and started thinking about all the kids that will rest peacefully on the beds we built.
