Giving back is in our blood. We rolled up our sleeves and were able to provide donations that could save up to 57 lives!

The first blood drive I was a part of was at King University while I was on the baseball team. I had never been able to give blood due to high school sports and the risk/loss of athletic performance for the few days following a donation. But our head coach insisted on us hosting a blood drive as a way to give back to the community.
Every year we tried to participate in 1,000 community service projects. That year he wanted to attempt a blood drive because earlier that year he had twin babies that were born premature and they required a blood transfusion. Sadly one of his children did not make it, but because of the blood transfusion they were able to save one of his newborn twins.
[blockquote author=”” link=”” target=”_blank”]Seeing firsthand how thankful he was that they had his son’s blood type really changed my perspective on donating blood.[/blockquote]
Every time I donate I know that someone I don’t even know, and probably never will meet, gets a second chance. And who knows? Maybe that experience touches them and sometime down the road they donate and I find myself in need of a transfusion.
This experience lead me to organize a blood drive as part of our 2,021 service hours to celebrate the firm’s 60th anniversary. We had 25 registered donors and were able to give 19 units of blood. That could save up to 57 local lives
