In April we collected shepherd’s hooks, birdhouses, bird feeders, and wind chimes to bring joy to local nursing home and assisted living residents who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice recently announced their goal of collecting 500 shepherd’s hooks to brighten the days of nursing home and assisted living residents with plants, birdhouses, birdfeeders, and other cheerful garden items. The pandemic has resulted in restrictions on visits and outings for the residents, leaving many in need of a boost of joy and entertainment. BCS employees contributed to the project by donating 21 shepherd’s hooks, over 50 pounds of birdseed, 4 finch socks, 9 birdfeeders, 7 birdhouses, and 2 windchimes. The items were then delivered by BCS employees to three nursing homes near BCS offices.

Too many of our seasoned citizens in nursing homes and assisted living facilities have been held hostage by the COVID pandemic. Flowers and other plants and birdhouses can bring a bit of joy back into their lives even as visitation restrictions remain.
