As you may have already read, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service announced that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals has been automatically extended from April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021. Some key details are listed below.
What Has Not Changed
- The first federal estimated payment is still due on April 15, 2021
- The North Carolina income tax deadline is still April 15, 2021
- The Tennessee tax deadline for both Hall tax and franchise/excise tax is still April 15, 2021
- The federal tax deadline for corporations is still April 15, 2021
- The federal tax deadline for trusts is still April 15, 2021
What Has Changed
- The federal income tax deadline for individual income taxpayers is now May 17, 2021

- We encourage you to submit your tax information as soon as possible.
- To ensure timely preparation of your return, please provide all information needed to prepare your return to us by April 15, 2021.
- If we have not received your information by April 15, we will not be able to guarantee that your return will be ready by the May 17, 2021 due date, and an extension may need to be filed.
We will continue to work hard to serve our clients well. We also want to honor the hard work that our partners and employees have put in over the current year’s challenging tax season and last year’s extended tax season. Partners and employees who have scheduled vacations in April and May will still be taking that time off.
