Last week, the US updated the mandated Form I-9 that ALL EMPLOYERS (meaning all employers, including farm labor contractors) must complete for every employee hired to work in the US after November 6, 1986. Form I-9 is meant to document ID verification for both citizens and non-citizens.
Employers may be fined if the form is not complete. Employers are responsible for retaining completed forms. Newly hired employees must complete and sign section 1 of Form I-9 no later than the first day of employment.
